New creates a new data base using the internal default setting, if there was no Preference file.
Open loads a previously saved data base. The internal conversion routine at present can only convert data bases from the 1.0.0a2 version (this includes the fixed versions but none of the preliminary versions such as 1.0.0a2p2).
Close Window close the front window and works like a click on a Cancel button.
Save creates a file and stores the contents of the current data base in that file. If no file has been previously saved or loaded, then refer to the Save As menu selection.
Save As is the same as save except it brings up a standard save dialog box.
Save As Text creates a tab delineated text file of the data represented in the front window. This allows you to transfer the contents of the data base to another program (word processor or spreadsheet, etc...). The amount of information saved is determined in most cases by the save preferences.
Export... will allow you to save the data base in other file formats. This is a future function.
Import... will allow you to enter data in other file formats. This is a future function.
Revert will reload the data base from the last saved or opened file.
Printer Setup does the normal thing.
Print will print out the contents of the front window as the Save As Text function does. The printout is formatted for the type of data displayed. At present, text only windows (such as the Help window), only print the first page of data.
Quit exits the program. Selecting Quit when there has been a change in any data base, will bring up a dialog box asking if you want to save, not save, or cancel the menu selection (for each changed data base). When a data base is closed, each of it's open windows are closed in the order of highest priority to lowest priority. If a window offers you a chance to cancel closing it and you choose to cancel, then the data base close action will be aborted at that window and thus the quit request will be aborted.
THE EDIT MENU:
This menu gives you access to the standard editing functions. The Color submenu allows the use of color in all text fields (but the color change may not be permanent). The Other seletion will bring up the Palette Manager window. The Style submenu allows the use of styles in all text fields (but the style change may not be permanent). Also justification is not supported at the character level by text edit.
THE WINDOWS MENU:
This menu gives you access ( and command key selection) to most of the windows in the program. Windows specific to a data base are prefixed with the initials DB. They only deal with windows belonging to the current data base (see the Data Base Manager window for more information).
Tile Windows will neatly layout the windows on the screen starting at the upper left corner below the menu bar.
Iconize will shrink the front window to a small icon. To open the window click on the icon.
THE FUNCTIONS MENU:
DB Split Cleared creates a new data base of all cleared data entries from the current data base. All cleared data entries are then deleted from the current data base. The new data base then becomes the current data base.
DB Combine adds the entries of the data base highlited in the Data Base Managers window to the current data base.
DB Duplicate creates a new data base with copies of all data entries from the current data base. The new data base then becomes the current data base.
Split Years creates a new data base for each year with data entries in the current data base. The data entries are then deleted from the current data base. One of the new data bases becomes the current data base.
Reconcile Data Bases will allow you to reconcile Annual Data Base files. You will be prompted for the starting year of the first data base, then you will be prompted for the ending year of the last data base.
Register Layout will allow you to layout the register to show the information you consider important. This is a future function.
